Group Therapy

Group therapy provides an opportunity for clients to practice and learn interpersonal skills in a safe environment. Confidentiality is stressed and group participants are asked to protect not just the names but the stories of the group members. Groups are sometimes organized around a common diagnosis or essential skills needed to cope with a diagnosis, for example assertiveness skills may be taught as an antidote to depression associated with passive or aggressive styles of communication. Groups may be ongoing or time limited. To participate in a psychotherapy group you have to be assessed, diagnosed and referred by a therapist. If you are interested in group therapy let that be known when you call in for your initial appointment and you will be given the opportunity to meet with a therapist who leads groups.
